Rita Sousa has a degree in Economics from the University of Minho, a Masters in Economics and Energy and Environmental policies from the ISEG, Technical University of Lisbon and a PhD from the Nova University of Lisbon in Climate Change and Sustainable Development Policies.

She has been working in climate and energy since 2000 in aspects related to the carbon economy. She has worked with specialised consultants on the carbon economy, a non-government organisation for the environment and for the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.

She is currently working as a guest lecturer at the School of Economics and Management at the University of Minho and the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto.
