INESC TEC with strong participation at the 25th EURO and EURO Summer Institute
Members of INESC TEC’s Manufacturing Systems Engineering Unit (UESP) have had a significant intervention at EURO - the 25th European Conference on Operational Research, with a total of 11 presentations. This event was held between 8 and 11 July in Vilnius, Lithuania.
INESC TEC helps the EDP estimate investments
NESC TEC's Power Systems Unit (USE) is currently collaborating with the EDP Distribuição (a Portuguese electricity distribution company) in a project where the aim is to implement procedures that will allow the distribution network to estimate the investments required for the electricity distribution network.
INESC TEC sensors identify DNA in wines
The Optoelectronics and Electronic Systems Unit (UOSE) of INESC TEC has recently started an innovative project in the biosensors area, in collaboration with the University of Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro (UTAD), the National Institute of Biological Resources (INRB) and SOGRAPE, LDA (Sociedade Agrícola S. Mateus), where the aim is to develop an optical biosensor to detect DNA hybridisation processes which can be used in wine traceability.
INESC TEC participates in ‘Moving Houses’ project
INESC TEC's Manufacturing Systems Engineering Unit (UESP) recently started the Moving Houses project, together with the CEM company. The Unit will be responsible for designing and developing the project’s movement automation system.
EISCO 2012 Conference
Portugal will be welcoming this year for the first time the conference EISCO - European Information Society Conference. Since 1998, this Conference has been playing a fundamental role in disseminating eGovernment practices and in discussing strategies and good practices related to the Information Society. This event is also co-organised by AMAVE - Associação de Municípios do Vale do Ave (the Association of Municipalities of the Vale do Ave region) and by the European Local Authorities' Telematic Network (ELANET), which is supported locally by INESC TEC. The EISCO 2012 Conference will take place in the city of Guimarães, between 12 and 14 November.
International Society for Music Information Retrieval Conference (ISMIR 2012)
The Telecommunications and Multimedia Unit at INESC TEC will be organising the 13th edition of the International Society for Music Information Retrieval Conference (ISMIR 2012) that will take place at the São Bento da Vitória Monastery in Porto between 8th and 12th October 2012.
INESC TEC promotes autonomy of senior citizens
By the end of June INESC TEC’s Telecommunications and Multimedia Unit (UTM) will be concluding the project Living Usability Lab (LUL) – Living Laboratory for the Use of Innovative Technologies in Next Generation Networks, a collaborative R&D project between academia and industry in Portugal. The project aimed to develop technologies that allow senior citizens to become more healthy and active.
Summer School on Recent Advances in Optics and Photonics
The Portuguese Society for Optics and Photonics, SPOF (Sociedade Portuguesa para a Investigação e Desenvolvimento em Óptica e Fotónica) is organising the first Summer School on Recent Advances in Optics and Photonics, in collaboration with INESC TEC and IT-Aveiro, which will take place between 27 and 29 June, at the Faculty of Science of the University of Porto (FCUP). As part of this event, INESC TEC is also organising the 10th Symposium on Enabling Optical Networks and Sensors (SEONS) on 27 June.
Workshop on new technologies for search and rescue at sea
INESC TEC is organising a workshop on new technologies for search and rescue operations at sea, which will take place on 10th May, as part of the Sea Forum, at Exponor in Matosinhos, Porto (Portugal).
INESC TEC concludes innovative music project
The Telecommunications and Multimedia Unit (UTM) at INESC TEC recently concluded project Kinetic that aimed to develop music generation algorithms with gestural controllers.
GimmeDaBlues Application wins ZON Creativity in Multimedia 2011 Award
The musical application GimmeDaBlues developed by a team of researchers at INESC TEC won first prize in the category “Multimedia Contents and applications” in the ZON Creativity in Multimedia 2011 Awards. The majority of the team also work closely with the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP). The award ceremony took place on 31st January at the Champalimaud Foundation in Lisbon.
INESC TEC – an institute to be proud of
On 30th and 31st January INESC TEC received a visit from the SAB - Scientific Advisory Board following the last evaluation three years ago. The SAB is a group of leading international researchers that the Directors invite to evaluate INESC TEC and offer suggestions for the continuous improvement of the institute. The evaluation this year could not have been more positive: according to the SAB, INESC TEC has suffered exponential growth, it continues to strive for high-quality science and publications and it is an institute we should be proud of.
INESC TEC technology takes to the high seas
Imagine if a ship of passengers runs a ground or sinks on the high sea and the weather conditions do not permit search and rescue teams to save the victims. One solution could be to use autonomous robots to support the search and rescue teams in this type of disaster. Project ICARUS (Integrated Components for Assisted Rescue and Unmanned Search operations) is exactly this. The project is run by a consortium of 24 European partners, including INESC TEC. The project is in the area of security and will involve two INESC TEC Units, once again showing INESC TEC’s potential in maritime robotics.
TriMARES wins award in golden year for Robotics at INESC TEC
Since its formation in 1993 and its first official intervention in various areas, such as Robotic Football and aquatic robotics, the Robotics and Intelligent Systems Unit at INESC TEC (ROBIS) has become one of the units with the largest growth index at the Associate Laboratory.
HASLab becomes INESC TEC Privileged Partner
INESC TEC, coordinated by INESC Porto, has recently welcomed HASLab – High Assurance Software Laboratory, based in Minho, as an INESC TEC Privileged Partner.
