This workshop is part of the Forum’s conference programme and it will focus on new technologies with an impact on search and rescue operations in the maritime domain. Using the FP7 funded project ICARUS (Integrated Components for Assisted Rescue and Unmanned Search operations) as a starting point, this workshop will bring together relevant players from different backgrounds to promote the discussion on the development and deployment of technologies that will have an impact on this area.
The aim with this project is to develop robotic tools which can be used in crisis scenarios at sea. This technology will aid search and rescue teams, for instance, in the event of a passenger ship wreck. One of the project’s assets is that these robots can be used at night, a period during which rescue teams do not normally operate. Therefore, it is possible to save more lives. These tools can also be used when the sea and weather conditions are not favourable and visibility is low.
Other than the scenarios of project ICARUS, this workshop will also promote discussion on other problems associated with search and rescue operations at sea which are relevant both nationally and internationally, including: accidents with small fishing or recreational vessels or man overboard situations in larger vessels.
Registration deadline: 8th May. You can register here.
