Regions are the catalysts for innovation
“Regions at the centre of the European Agenda for Innovation until 2020” is the motto for the 7th edition of the International Seminar on Regional Innovation Policies. At this international meeting, experts will be discussing the importance of the innovation produced in universities and companies to increasing regional competitiveness. Technology revolutionises musical experience
International Conference organised by INESC TEC, in partnership with the Teatro Nacional de São João, will bring to Porto experts to discuss the role that technology can play in music. This conference will feature concerts where computers are the main artists. The dialogue between music and sound computing is not only revolutionising the way artists produce music, but also the way we listen to, store and search music.
INESC TEC organises international conference in the field of Music
INESC TEC’s Telecommunications and Multimedia Unit (UTM) is organising the 13th Edition of the International Society for Music Information Retrieval Conference (ISMIR 2012), which will take place between 8 and 12 October, at the Mosteiro São Bento da Victória in Porto, Portugal.
Convention of the AeroSpace and Defence Industries Association of Europe (ASD)
INESC TEC will participate in the Convention of the AeroSpace and Defence Industries Association of Europe (ASD), which will take place between 10 and 12 October at the Centro de Congressos in Lisbon. This event is organised by aicep Portugal Global and DANOTEC.
European Researchers’ Night 2012
INESC TEC will be represented at the European Researchers’ Night 2012, which will take place on 28 September at the Reitoria building of the University of Porto.
Portuguese House wants to "revolutionise the housing paradigm"
Designed by Manuel Vieira Lopes, a student at the University of Porto, the "Moving Houses" project is currently one of the most important projects worldwide in terms of sustainable architecture. A finalist of the “Solar Decathlon Europe 2012”, the biggest international competition devoted exclusively to the topic of ecological housing, which this year takes place in Madrid, Spain, the project, its creator believes," will revolutionise the housing paradigm worldwide."
Interest in project is crucial to boost exports
The 8th Edition of the Symposium on microgrids of the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, of the US Department of Energy, ended after a visit to the InovCity, at the Praça de Sertório in Évora, Portugal. Vera Nunes, the communications expert responsible for disseminating the InovGrid project, accompanied the visit and was quite pleased by the interest shown by all participants, especially when the possibility was mentioned of implementing this model in other European countries. This idea was strengthened by João Peças Lopes, a professor and researcher and one of the project’s mentors. He highlighted the potential of what is now considered a case study of a global energy revolution.
Experts discuss "the latest global energy revolution"
Smart grids have been the central theme of the Symposium held in Évora, Portugal’s first city to receive a smart grid. For two days, 125 scientists and experts from around the world discussed the most important topics of the energy revolution: microgeneration, microgrids and electric mobility. The 8th Edition of the Symposium on microgrids – promoted by the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory of the U.S. Department of Energy– was organised by INESC Porto, with the support of the EDP and the EFACEC.

Resistance of microgrids discussed in international symposium
Broadly presenting the “current state of the art of microgrids” is the main goal of the scientific and technical meeting which is taking place on 3 and 4 September, gathering over 125 experts. The 8th Edition of the Symposium on microgrids, promoted by the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, was organised by INESC Porto.

Members of INESC TEC’s Manufacturing Systems Engineering Unit (UESP) have had a significant intervention at EURO - the 25th European Conference on Operational Research, with a total of 11 presentations. This event was held between 8 and 11 July in Vilnius, Lithuania.
INESC TEC helps the EDP estimate investments
NESC TEC's Power Systems Unit (USE) is currently collaborating with the EDP Distribuição (a Portuguese electricity distribution company) in a project where the aim is to implement procedures that will allow the distribution network to estimate the investments required for the electricity distribution network.
INESC TEC sensors identify DNA in wines
The Optoelectronics and Electronic Systems Unit (UOSE) of INESC TEC has recently started an innovative project in the biosensors area, in collaboration with the University of Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro (UTAD), the National Institute of Biological Resources (INRB) and SOGRAPE, LDA (Sociedade Agrícola S. Mateus), where the aim is to develop an optical biosensor to detect DNA hybridisation processes which can be used in wine traceability.
INESC TEC participates in ‘Moving Houses’ project
INESC TEC's Manufacturing Systems Engineering Unit (UESP) recently started the Moving Houses project, together with the CEM company. The Unit will be responsible for designing and developing the project’s movement automation system.
EISCO 2012 Conference
Portugal will be welcoming this year for the first time the conference EISCO - European Information Society Conference. Since 1998, this Conference has been playing a fundamental role in disseminating eGovernment practices and in discussing strategies and good practices related to the Information Society. This event is also co-organised by AMAVE - Associação de Municípios do Vale do Ave (the Association of Municipalities of the Vale do Ave region) and by the European Local Authorities' Telematic Network (ELANET), which is supported locally by INESC TEC. The EISCO 2012 Conference will take place in the city of Guimarães, between 12 and 14 November.
