Regions are the catalysts for innovation
International Seminar on Regional Innovation Policies
11 and 12 October in Porto, Portugal
What if instead of thinking of Portugal, Spain or Italy we thought of the Regions of the Douro and Galicia, Catalonia, Andalusia or Piedmont as innovation catalysts? Regions are capable of structuring and making innovation more dynamic at a European level, and thus contribute to promoting economic growth and job creation. This is one of the most important issues to be discussed at the 7th edition of the International Seminar on Regional Innovation Policies, which will take place between 11 and 12 October at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP). This year’s event will be welcoming around 100 experts from over 20 different countries.
Canada will be presented as a success case and an example of good practices when it comes to applying Regional Innovation Policies, which have led to a positive impact on the country’s economy. This international meeting will also promote the discussion on how to turn the cultural and natural specificities of each region into economic value, and on the importance of the innovation produced in universities and companies to increasing regional competitiveness.
Some of the keynote speakers at this event include David Wolfe, a professor at the University of Toronto Mississauga (Canada), Bjorn Asheim, a professor at the University of Lund (Sweden), Knut Koschatzky, an Innovation expert at Fraunhofer ISI (Germany), Augusto Mateus, President of the Consulting Society Augusto Mateus & Associados and Full Professor (guest) at the Higher Institute of Economics and Management (ISEG) at the Technical University of Lisbon (Portugal), and Marko Torkkeli, a professor at the Technological University of Lappeenranta (Finland) and guest researcher at INESC TEC.
The 7th edition of the International Seminar on Regional Innovation Policies is organised this year by INESC TEC, the Associate Laboratory coordinated by INESC Porto, in partnership with the University of Agder, the University of Cantabria, the Edinburgh Napier University, the Faculty of Economics of the University of Porto, the University of Lund, the University of Salzburg and the International Society for Professional Innovation Management (ISPIM).
This event is funded by the following programmes: ON.2 – O Novo Norte, QREN – Quadro de Referência Estratégico Nacional (the National Strategic Reference Framework) and ERDF – the European Regional Development Fund.
