Michael Donauer

Michael Donauer, a researcher at the University of Porto, has recently received a Best Paper Award at the international conference Flexible Automation and Intelligent Manufacturing (FAIM 2013). Michael is a PhD student in the Doctoral Program Leaders for Technological Industries, promoted by the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP), as part of the MIT Portugal Program.

In his work, Michael Donauer created a tool that is capable of constantly facilitating and improving manufacturing processes. Basically, the tool identifies causes for non-conformity in mass production environments where usually there are large amounts of information which are not organised and can therefore make the manufacturing process more difficult.

For his research, Michael worked as a trainee for a company in the automotive sector. The results obtained made it possible to create a solution meeting the company’s needs that can afterwards be applied by quality control engineers in order to optimise procedures.
