PRODUTECH partnership demonstrates customised manufacturing technology at ADIRA

The Production Technologies Cluster (PRODUTECH) is presenting for the first time the ADIRA PRODUCTION SYSTEM, a new assembly line for ADIRA’s factory, located in Vila Nova de Gaia, Portugal, designed and implemented with innovative manufacturing technology made in Portugal, including manufacturing optimisation and autonomous vehicles that supply every work station with the materials required to assemble customised orders. Making production faster and more flexible will allow this national company to reduce in over 50% the delivery times of completely customised machines.

6 May, 3 pm, at the industrial facilities of ADIRA in Canelas (Vila Nova de Gaia, Portugal)

The PRODUTECH projects will be presented for the first time at the Portuguese company ADIRA Metal-Forming Solutions, SA. The goal with the technology, in the area of operations management and logistics, was to develop methodologies, tools and equipment that allow Portuguese companies to produce customised products (according to the needs of each customer) in a more competitive way.

ADIRA is implementing a new concept of assembly line that will make it possible to deviver highly customised machines to customers in about 10 days. “Through this system, ADIRA will be able to assemble high added value products and be more competitive in national and international markets. We hope to reinforce our position as a world manufacturer of machines to work with metal sheets,” states the CEO of ADIRA, António Cardoso Pinto.

This project involved a broad and multidisciplinary consortium, covering areas such as operation and layout optimisation, production scheduling and control, automated material and information flows, and material and component management. The new ADIRA PRODUCTION SYSTEM is based on a highly flexible assembly line, fed by autonomous vehicles that provide each work station with the materials necessary to produce customised orders, fully integrated with the remaining systems and processes to manage the company. “These results illustrate the potential of this type of joint work, involving developer companies and users of advanced systems, as well as entities from the science and technology system. Furthermore, the results are proof of the impact that these technologies can have on the competitiveness of the manufacturing industry,” states José Carlos Caldeira, Executive Director of PRODUTECH.

Other than the demonstration, the event will also include presentations by Maurizio Gattiglio, President of the EFFRA – Factories of the Future Research Association, and by the Secretary of State for Innovation, Investment and Competitiveness, Pedro Gonçalves (to be confirmed).
