Maritime Safety with Unmanned Vehicles highlighted at the Sea Fair

INESC TEC, the European Defence Agency and the Portuguese Ministry of Defence have joined to organise, for the first time in Portugal, the Workshop on European Unmanned Maritime Systems. Focusing on the theme of Maritime Safety, this is the third edition of the workshop where the goal is to present technology and other research results, with civillian and military applications, developed as part of the programme of the European Defence Agency for Unmanned Maritime Systems and other European initiatives.

The Unmanned Maritime Systems of the future and the safety regulations associated with this kind of technology in Europe are some of the themes that are going to be discussed during the third edition of the Workshop on European Unmanned Maritime Systems. Organised for the first time in Portugal, following a proposal from the national representative of the Portuguese Ministry of Defence in the Management Committee of the programme with the European Space Agency, the event will take place at the 2014 Sea Fair (Fórum do Mar) (Exponor, Leça da Palmeira, Portugal) between 29 and 30 May. This workshop is jointly organised by INESC TEC, the European Defence Agency and the Portuguese Ministry of Defence, through the Directorate-General for Armament and Defence Infrastructures.

Targetting researchers and end-users, the third editon of the Workshop on European Unmanned Maritime Systems is a privileged forum to discuss ideas, identify trends and paradigms and create business opportunities and partnerships, namely as part of Horizon 2020 programme. The workshop will be attended by important personalities in the sector, such as Jorge Pereira (Principal Scientific Officer of the European Commission), Julio Dolado (Authority of the Spanish Ministry for the Economy and Competitiveness – CDTI), Leendert Bal (Director of Operations at the European Maritime Safety Agency – EMSA) and José Cordeiro (President of the Portuguese Aeronautics, Space and Defence Association – AED).

The workshop is open to members of industry, research centres, academia and government organisations from member states of the European Defence Agency and from Norway. Participation in the workshop is free, but seats are limited. Therefore, registration is required (subject to confirmation).
