Kinematix opens Boston office, raises $2.6M Series B

Portugal-based Kinematix announced Tuesday it has raised $2.6 million in Series B funding and opened its U.S. headquarters in Boston. The company offers health and fitness products that evaluate body position and movement.

The new round of funding came from Portugal-based venture investment firm Portugal Ventures, which invested $2.3 million in Series A funding in 2008. The money will go toward accelerating sales and marketing activities worldwide, according to a release.

Kinematix, formerly called Tomorrow Options, also announced Tuesday the opening of its U.S. office in Boston.

The company markets two products: MOViNSENSE, which monitors the position and activity of restricted-mobility patients in hospitals and nursing homes, and WALKiNSENSE, an in-shoe device that assesses patients who need orthotics and custom-made insoles, according to their website.

Jay Pieper is the U.S.-based chairman of the board for Kinematix. Pieper was previously president and CEO of Partners International Medical Services and vice president of corporate development and treasury affairs for Boston-based Partners HealthCare System, founded by Brigham and Women's Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital.
