Institute in Porto develops project to predict the aesthetic outcome of breast-conserving surgery

Porto, 19 Sept. (Lusa) – INESC Porto announced today that the institute is part of an international consortium that is developing a tool to predict the aesthetic outcome of breast cancer surgery, helping women to choose between different treatment options.

PICTURE (Patient Information Combined for the Assessment of Specific Surgical Outcomes in Breast Cancer) is the name of the project that gathers the Institute for Systems and Computer Engineering of Porto (INESC Porto), the University Medical Center Leiden (The Netherlands), the University College London (United Kingdom), the King's College London (United Kingdom) and Philips (Germany).

According to a press release from INESC Porto, the goal is to "develop the prototype for a tool that makes it possible to predict how the breast will look after breast-conserving surgery”.
