INESC TEC provides energy services in the Balkans
The aim with this consulting contract is to help energy companies and regulatory bodies in the Balkans conduct studies and develop projects towards the implementation of a liberalised energy market in the future. Nuno Fidalgo was responsible for assessing the evolution of these projects, presenting suggestions to optimise procedures and identifying the fundamental developments for future stages.
It is important to highlight that INESC TEC’s work in the Balkans is not recent. In 2008, INESC Porto (the entity coordinating of INESC TEC) started working on two energy projects as part of the TEMPUS project. The first one, entitled JADES – Joint Advanced Doctoral Degree in Energy Systems, followed a previous work, the CEFES - Cost Effective and Environmentally Friendly Energy Systems, and provided and master’s programme for the Universities of Tuzla (Bosnia), Novi Sad (Serbia) and St. Kiril i Methodius (Macedonia). The second project, entitled SEECEN – South East Europe Continuing Education Network, provided advanced training on electrical power systems to technical staff of companies in this sector, as well as to governmental and regulatory bodies.
More recently, INESC TEC signed an advanced consulting contract to directly support electrical system operators and regulatory bodies in Bosnia-Herzegovina in developing consumption profiles for the operation of the electrical market. The aim was also to define methodologies that make it possible to quantify the costs associated to different types and groups of consumers.
