Best Iberian dissertation belongs to INESC TEC researcher

José Luís Silva, a researcher at INESC TEC’s High Assurance Software (HASLab), is the winner of the 1st edition of the AISTI award (Iberian Association of Information Systems and Technology) for “Best Iberian Dissertation on Information Systems and Technology”. The INESC TEC researcher was the winner in a total of 27 applications.

Titled “Rapid Prototyping of Ubiquitous Computing Environments”, the dissertation of the MAP-i doctoral programme in IT, promoted by the Universities of Minho, Aveiro and Porto, was supervised by José Creissac Campos, a researcher at HASLab and professor at U.Minho, and by Michael Douglas Harrison from the University of Newcastle, where José Luís Silva had the opportunity to spend some time during his PhD studies.

As part of his PhD, the HASLab researcher designed an innovative way of developing software that makes it possible to easily create prototypes in ubiquitous computing environments. José Luís Silva focused specifically on environments with sensors, public displays and personal devices, and his goal was to understand how prototypes can assess the (implicit and explicit) interaction of the users with the services provided in those environments.

It is important to remember that José Luís Silva was also a finalist in the Fraunhofer Portugal Challenge Award in 2012, having won 3rd place in the PhD category.

The INESC TEC researcher mentioned in this article is associated with the following partner institution: U.Minho.
