INESC TEC technology allows users to watch 3D concerts and choose most interesting perspective
The “Personalized Multiview Environment”, developed at INESC TEC’s Centre for Telecommunications and Multimedia (CTM) together with FEUP as part of the research line “Media, Arts & Technologies (MAT)”, enables immersive personalised experiences, presenting 3D contents to the users based on their preferences. These preferences are perceived according to the image area that the user focuses on at any instant. This prototype can be used in different areas, such as music, education, health, or tourism.
INESC TEC organises workshop in Bristol
INESC TEC’s Centre for Innovation, Technology and Entrepreneurship (CITE) organised a workshop on technology exploration, which took place on 27 March, in Bristol. This workshop was part of a COST Action in which INESC TEC’s Centre for Telecommunications and Multimedia is involved (CTM).
INESC TEC wants to increase e-Inclusion and autonomy of the blind with mobile digital platform
Increasing the autonomy of the blind or people with low vision, allowing them to be included in a large set of activities and improving their quality of life, using a mobile digital platform – this is INESC TEC’s goal with project CE4BLIND (Context Extraction for the blind using computer vision), which starts in May and will last 12 months.
INESC TEC with differentiating skills in the transportation and mobility sector
The transportation area is typically associated with civil engineering (namely in terms of planning and infrastructures), but over the past few years INESC TEC has managed to gain a relevant position in this area due to the Associate Laboratory’s multidisciplinary nature.
INESC TEC joins SME Robotics initiative
INESC TEC’s Centre for Robotics and Intelligent Systems (CROB) is officially part of the SME Robotics Consortium, a European robotics initiative whose goal is to strengthen the competitiveness of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the area of manufacturing using cognitive robotics. Manufacturing is a key sector in the European Union.
INESC TEC develops unique solar power forecasting system
In March, INESC TEC’s Centre for Power and Energy Systems (CPES) concluded project PREVSol (PREVisão da Produção de Energia Elétrica de Base SOLar), where the goal was to create a solar power forecasting system.
Project e-POLICY rated Excellent in final evaluation
The European project e-POLICY, in which INESC TEC’s Centre for Research in Advanced Computing Systems (CRACS) and Laboratory of Artificial Intelligence and Decision Support (LIAAD) were involved, was rated Excellent in the project’s final evaluation. According to the reviewers “the project has fully achieved its objectives and technical goals for the period and has even exceeded expectations.”
José Carlos Príncipe is professor of the year at University of Florida
José Carlos Príncipe, president of INESC TEC’s Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) and professor at the University of Florida, in the United States, was named the 2014 professor of the year at that American University.
Project on the detection of pollutants approved as part of call UT Austin – Portugal
INESC TEC’s Centre for Research in Advanced Computing Systems (CRACS) is involved in a multidisciplinary project that was approved as part of a call of the University of Texas/Austin – Portugal Programme.
INESC TEC participates in European project to explore minerals under water
INESC TEC is participating in a €12,6M H2020 project where the goal is to explore underwater mines. This will be a unique opportunity to explore Europe’s underwater mineral resources using safer and more environmentally friendly techniques.
INESC TEC creates decision support tool for pricing in car rental companies
INESC TEC’s Centre for Industrial Engineering and Management (CEGI) is developing, in partnership with Guerin Car Rental Solutions, a tool that makes it possible to define the pricing of this car rental company in e-broker websites, intermediaries that represent and compare different competitors. This tool makes it possible to update the company’s profit by updating, several times of day, the prices on the e-brokers for each rental type and date searched by the client, based on the monitoring of the fleet occupation and prices of competitors. The project started in February.
INESC TEC project makes it possible to understand factors that influence time clients spend in shops
The time that customers spend in shops is influenced by the temperature, noise and service provided. This is the conclusion of RETAIL PRO, a research project which provided an integrated strategic platform to manage work environments.
INESC TEC tries to understand the cause for motor disorders
INESC TEC’s Centre for Research in Biomedical Engineering (C-BER) is involved in a project where the goal is to study the regions of the brain where motor dysfunctions start. As part of this project, which involves INESC TEC and the University of Munich, Germany, in March INESC TEC hosted Verena Rozanski, a doctor and researcher at that university.
INESC TEC develops app that knows the preferences of users
INESC TEC’s Centre for Telecommunications and Multimedia (CTM) is developing an app for Android that makes it possible to understand the users’ musical preferences, and the most interesting news and films for them, in an automatic and non-invasive way. The app is called CAMR (Context-Aware Personalized Multimedia Recommendations for Mobile Users) and is being developed as part of the MAT – Media Arts and Technology research programme.
INESC TEC starts new project on manufacturing industry
In January 2015, INESC TEC’s Centre for Enterprise Systems Engineering (CESE) started a new project where the goal is to study the main conditions for a combined use of funds (public and private, national and European) in large-scale Research, Development and Innovation (RDI) initiatives in the area of manufacturing industry.

INESC TEC in European Consortium on communications
Innovative ultra-BROadband ubiquitous Wireless communications through terahertz transceivers (iBROW) is the name of the new project in which INESC TEC is involved. The goal with the project is to develop new, low-cost and energy efficient wireless transceivers capable of dealing with the increasing data transmission requirements. The project kicked off in January 2015 and brings together a group of 11 partners.
INESC TEC makes communications in Space more efficient
In January, INESC TEC kicked off the European project SCREEN (Space Cognitive Radio for Electromagnetic Environment maNagement), where the goal is to take the concept of cognitive radio to Space, exploring the benefits that this technology has demonstrated on land. The project has a budget of one million euros.
INESC TEC researcher publishes book
Ricardo Queirós, researcher at INESC TEC’s Centre for Research in Advanced Computing Systems (CRACS), has published and edited, in January 2015, a book about innovative teaching strategies and new learning paradigms in the Area of Computer Science. Published by IGI Global, the book is available on Amazon.
